Dr Maja Cassidy

Dr Maja Cassidy is a Senior Lecturer, ARC DECRA Fellow, and Scientia Fellow in the School of Physics at UNSW Sydney. She is also the Quantum Hardware Work Package Leader and a member of the Executive Management Committee for the ARC Training Centre for Future Leaders in Quantum Computing (FLiQC). Her research focuses on developing advanced quantum devices and technologies that will underpin future quantum computing and sensing systems.

Maja completed a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (First Class Honours) at UNSW as a Cooperative Scholarship student before undertaking a Master’s degree and PhD in Applied Physics at Harvard University. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at QuTech and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, she returned to Australia to join Microsoft Quantum, where she spent five years as Principal Research Manager leading quantum hardware integration initiatives.

In late 2022, Maja joined UNSW, where she established and leads the Quantum Materials and Devices (QMD) Laboratory. She also teaches the third-year course Quantum Physics of Solids and Devices, helping to inspire and train the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers.
