Dr Yonatan Ashlea Alava brings a truly international and interdisciplinary background to quantum technologies, with academic experience spanning Spain and Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Physics in Spain before undertaking an Honours year at UNSW. Returning to Spain, he earned a master’s degree in Nanotechnology before coming back to UNSW to complete a PhD in Quantum Technology.
As a postdoctoral researcher, Yoni leads and manages fabrication efforts across several key FLiQC projects. His work focuses on developing NbTiN thin films and fabricating aluminium and tantalum Josephson junctions, which are essential components for next-generation quantum devices. In addition to producing NbTiN films for more than five PhD research projects, Yoni plays a vital role in supporting and mentoring students throughout the fabrication process, helping to translate innovative designs into functioning quantum devices.
