About John

John studied Natural Sciences at University College London (UCL), majoring in Physics with a minor in Maths and Statistics. What drew John into quantum computing was his experience in a third-year quantum mechanics module, which led him to choose Quantum Information and Computation modules in the fourth year of his integrated master’s degree. He was also drawn to the field because of the hype around quantum computing and its potential to become a major area of technological development, much like AI is today.

John was looking at internship opportunities at PsiQuantum, and that is where he saw the FLiQC programme, which offered him the opportunity to gain a PhD, further his research skills and quantum computing expertise, while also gaining valuable industry experience.

So far in his PhD, he has really enjoyed meeting the rest of his cohort, his supervisors Andrew, Dom and Sam, and other leading academics, including Centre Director Stephen. Being surrounded by people who are at the top of their field and getting a feel for the ethos of the group has been genuinely inspiring. It really motivates you to learn from the people around you, push yourself, and hopefully reach that level yourself one day.
